Liebster Blog Award

I’m truly grateful to be selected for the Liebster Blog Award. The word Liebster means “dearest” or “favorite” in German, and the award is given as a form of recognition and support for smaller, up and coming blogs.

My sincere thanks to Julie Luekenga of “A Thought Grows” for selecting me as a blog favorite. It’s a great gift to be acknowledged by your blogging peers. Check out Julie’s blog to experience her talented, and inspiring viewpoints.

Liebster Award rules:

  1. Answer your nominator’s eleven questions.
  2. Think of eleven questions of your own.
  3. Choose eleven worthy bloggers (who have fewer than 500 followers. The rule varies between 200 and 500) to interview and pay it forward.
  4. Make sure to inform the bloggers they’ve been nominated winners.

My Answers to Julie Luekenga’s Questions

1.    Who is your favorite author and why?

Elizabeth Berg. Her storytelling is warm, inviting, relatable, and engaging. She’s my literary inspiration.

2.   The ideal writing retreat would be?

A writing cottage in Maui. Love, love, love me some Maui. Love the combination of mountains, waterfalls, volcanoes, and pristine ocean all rolled into one breathless scenery.

3.   What are your current writing projects?

There are several projects, but the one at the forefront is my current novel A Little Bruised. There’s also a forthcoming project I’ll be announcing on this blog later this week. Stay tuned.

4.   What is the philosophy or mission of your blog?

Originally the purpose of this blog was to write about my journey as a writer, but I became quickly bored with that and wanted to be more inspirational. I love how I feel when I’m inspired or moved by something or someone. I feel like I can move mountains when I’m in that zone. Therefore, I want the mission of this blog to give that same feeling to others in an authentic and spunky way.

5.   You get an all-expense paid week to do anything you want, what would it be?

I’d run away for a week, and hide from all my responsibilities. I’d go to a beautiful place where there are trees, mountains, and ocean. To just be myself without roles and obligations. Pure freedom!!!

6.   If you could sit down and have coffee ‘n chat with anyone, past or present, who’d it be and why?

God. I have a whole lot of questions needing divine answers.

7.   A maitre-de comes to your table, lifts the silver lid off the plate of an exquisite meal, what is it?

Cheeseburger and steak fries. To me that’s exquisite. And brownie ala mode for dessert. Yummo! I don’t need frilly “phoo phoo” meals. I like comfort foods that warm my soul.

8.   One item from your bucket list is?

To travel to Africa.

9.   What is your favorite place in your house to read a book?

Curled up on the oversized lounge chair (that seats two people) in my bedroom.

10. What song are you most likely to be caught singing in the shower.

What songs don’t I sing in the shower? I sing whatever rolls out my mouth.

11.  What talent, besides writing do you possess?

Not a lot of people know this, but I can play the piano. Just the basics, nothing elaborate. I took lessons for a year as a kid (around age 11). My husband was shocked the first time he saw me play a piano. He thought I was lying when I told him I could play.

My Award Nominees

Being a recipient of this award has made me realize I don’t follow a lot of up and coming blogs. There are about five I visit regularly, and two of those have already been nominated. I typically follow mainstream blogs with larger followers, and should definitely find more smaller ones to support. That said, I only have three up and coming blogs I feel are worthy of this award.

  • Susan Boswell at skirt.com/susan-boswell (followers may be a bit over 500). Susan is a local friend and favorite of mine because she has a way with words that pour out onto the page brilliantly.

  • Melissa Kinnel at A 5-Minute Piece of My Mind (not sure how many followers). Melissa’s poetry is what first hooked me to her blog. However, her blog topics are insightful and interesting. Once you’ve checked out her blog posts make sure you stop by her poetry page. It’s pure, raw talent.
