I Lost My Virginity to a Jerk!

This past Friday evening, at my book club meeting, I had a hot and spicy experience I’ll never forget. It curled my toes, electrified my body, and left me gasping, panting, and quivering for more. It was on that day—Friday the 13th, 2011—I lost my virginity. I am no longer a Jamaican Jerk Chicken virgin.

Our bimonthly book club meetings are typically pot-luck gatherings where a group of women get together to laugh, eat, and discuss books. We alternate hosting the meetings at each other’s homes and everyone has to bring a dish (in order to pig out). This month’s book selection, “Nineteen Minutes” by Jodi Picoult (read it, it’s very good) ignited a lot of stimulating discussion at the meeting. However, I was too busy smackin’ my lips and lickin’ my fingers to get stimulated over the book. Something else had me in a stimulated frenzy.

One of our members, Denise—a Jamaican native—brought in Jerk Chicken and Fried Plantains as her pot-luck dish. Good golly Miss Molly, what’d she do that for? This chicken was very hot, very spicy and very AWESOME! I’ve never had Jamaican Jerk chicken nor fried plantains before, and these two dishes were equally rockin’ a throw-down party in my mouth. Of course, other delicious dishes and desserts were there to wolf down, but Denise stole the show for me, giving us all a taste of her Jamaican roots.

This loss of virginity is rather amazing to me because, typically, I’m not a hot and spicy kind of girl when it comes to food. Yet, indeed, me and the jerk (and its plantain sidekicks) hooked up not once, nor twice, but three times that evening. Leaving me fat, happy, and satisfied (and scrounging for water to kill the burn).

  1. Fun D! Love this! The meal and the book club sounds awesome. I love hearing about other’s book clubs. At least if you were to lose your virginity, it was to someone “hot”! LOL!

  2. Susan, you’re funny. Also, I like hearing about other people’s book clubs, too. Unfortunately, after one of my book club meetings, I have to spend the next several days at the gym trying to undo the damage done.

  3. You just go on spicy lady!! As you know, my bro is married to a Jamaican native. He now “specializes” in jerk chicken. I think it’s very tasty, but he makes it too hot & spicy for baby sis. I have to sleep in the bathroom every time. But I do love a good pot luck. Remember ours?? Ms. Ore Ida, it’s all right-a!!

  4. Oh yes, Starla, how could I ever forget those pot lucks. Especially since everyone was so jealous of Ms. Ore Ida. Haters!!! The pot lucks “back in the day” were the best of all and can never be duplicated. Also, I’m going to need to try big brother’s jerk.

  5. First, let me just say you threw me off with the title of this one.
But as you know I love Spicy!!!! Also Jerk Chicken is wonderful.
I am so glad you are trying new flavors.
But, I hope that you are not serving Ore Ida when it is your turn to host the book club. Because that is our special treat:) LOL!!!

  6. Sharon, glad to see the title gotcha. It’s suppose to reel you in and then…..Syke! C’mon, as if I’m REALLY gonna talk about my virginity to the masses. Furthermore you, too, were also an Ore Ida hater. Haters!!!

  7. OMG OMG OMG I can’t stop smiling Meachie!!!!!! This is too funny and I’m honered that the chicken and plantains made such and impact on you. In my Jamacain tongue we would say “EVERYTING IRIE MON” meaning “IT’S ALL GOOD” For a minute there I was wondering what part of the book did I miss out on the quivers, gasping and panting…….lol lol lol
